Club Notes
June 2, 2020
Thank you to all who supported the community fundraiser organised by Naomh Mearnóg in conjunction with Portmarnock AFC, Portmarnock Tennis Club, Portmarnock Athletics Club and The Links Portmarnock . It was a tremendous success. The very deserving charities who will benefit are Friend’s of Suicide Loss, Portmarnock Integrated Arch Club, Portmarnock Lions Club, St Francis Hospice and Comfort4Covid. A special mention to our Gaelic4Mothers section who rallied their troops to make a group donation.
Like all other events, this one could not have taken place without serious work being done in the background. For this we would like to pay tribute to our young PRO Aisling Kiernan. Aisling is an incredibly competent individual and her enthusiasm is infectious.
As you are all aware our Chairman Cecil Ryan wrote to Croke Park recently regarding the possibility of opening up our premises at certain times in order that they can be used as a walkway. We received a reply and the matter is under consideration. However, for the moment the situation remains as before. The club grounds are closed and all activity with the exception of maintenance work is prohibited. It is totally illegal to enter our grounds for any other reason.
Our Community Volunteer Group will continue to operate for as long as is necessary. Our confidential text line number is 087 3439597.
As businesses begin to reopen we ask our members to make a special effort to support our sponsors.
The absence of games especially during this beautiful spell of weather can be difficult for players and supporters. However, we ask all of you to stick with the professional advice. As a community and as a country we are making obvious progress against the virus and we will be back playing our games stronger than ever in the not too distant future.
We extend our sympathy to the Larkin family on the death of Irene’s sister Winifred Treacy. May Her Soul Rest in Peace.
