Chairman’s note – April 2020
Posted April 5, 2020
It is now many weeks ago that our focus was entirely on our plans for the year around facilities, pitches and games. The good news is that while our planned initiatives are either postponed or some perhaps cancelled for now, we can still look forward to returning to play in exceptional facilities. When we do, we will have an increased gratitude for the benefits we derive from sport and maybe a greater sense of perspective about the importance of results.
Regarding Covid 19 the club will continue to follow the guidelines from the HSE and GAA, erring on the side of caution where there is any ambiguity. We have as you know a volunteer initiative with a large number of Members on hand to run errands or provide other support to those who may need it during this period and it is great to see how many people have volunteered. Keep an eye on our various communication channels as we adapt the service, for example as of this week we have partnered with Smyths Butchers to support deliveries of basic groceries to those who are unable to venture out themselves. To avail of this service contact Smyths directly.
From a games perspective we have had no clear direction which competitions will take priority when we return. We do know that the Feiles “are not proceeding”, however, should the Dublin Feiles not take place later in the year the club will liaise with other clubs to run tournaments and make sure that the various u14s will have their day in the sun (or rain)! Please adhere to the instructions to avoid group training anywhere and any activity in the club grounds.
From the list of planned initiatives in our February note, we had completed the CCTV and alarm upgrades before the break. We have also erected the poles for stop nets on Pitches 6 & 8 as we had already placed the order. Pitch 1 surface is just about ready for play and the goalposts were due to be erected this week but this has been postponed for now. What this all means is that within a week or so of our return we should have Pitch 1, 3, 6 and 8 all available for playing full matches.
From a financial point of view, we will upon the re-opening of the club, take stock of where we are and re-prioritise any planned expenditure. It is very likely that a number of initiatives will not proceed, in the scheme of things this is of little consequence.
In the meantime, stay safe and look forward to returning to playing, coaching, standing on the sideline offering expert opinions, playing cards, chess, or keeping fit in the clubhouse. Most importantly if you or anyone you know needs any help from the club, please do call our support number on 087 343 9597
