Naomh Mearnog G4Ms and others in prayerful silence as they blitz the day and night
Posted October 22, 2016
Saturday 15th October saw over 2000 women descend upon the club for the annual Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others All Ireland Blitz!
Renowned as being a great day (and night!) this year certainly lived up to expectations! The rain dried up and the sound of laughter, chat and music from the 2FM Roadcaster filled the air.
First up, the traditional warm up on the astro by the hilariously energetic, Mr Motivator! With main sponsors, Lidl, on hand to paint your club colours across your face, we were ready for battle! Naomh Mearnog came up against tough competition this year and we were narrowly defeated in one of the earlier games.
A good team talk up in the bar and we emerged victorious from the final games of the day! With goals as good as you’d see in Croker and Trojan battling in defence and mid field, not to mention superb goal-keeping by the two sub goalies on the day, we gave it all and did the club proud. As the games drew to a close and the heavens opened again, teams flooded to the bar to take shelter and get comfortable for the evening!
The Under-13 hurling champions, fresh from their success that afternoon, kindly let us take photos with the only bit of silverware we’d see that day! Then came the serious part of the evening… Weeks of planning, preparation and team tactics came to fruition… The Fancy Dress Competition! Dressed to impress as mime artists, Naomh Mearnog came runner up and vowed to clinch the title next year!
A great night was had by all at the gala dinner, a first of its kind at this event and a huge success. We danced the night away to a great band and were blessed in the presence of a curious looking Pope.
None of this would be possible without the diligent efforts of Kathleen Colreavy, Cliodhna O’Connor and their team and we want to thank them for yet another fantastic blitz and for their continued efforts in ladies football.
