A banquet weekend of celebrations
Posted September 22, 2015
As part of our 40th Anniversary, we had a banquet weekend of celebrations in the Club on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th of September.
The weekend kicked off on Friday with a Barn Dance spectacular, organised by Andrew Crean-Lynch and his cowgirls. The marquee twinkled with fairy lights, and LED night lights on crisp gingham table cloths. The BBQ was mighty, with several types of meat, salads, pastas, rice and potatoes to bolster enough energy for a wild nights dancing. Then the lads and lassies strutted their stuff to the music of the Whole Hog Band, in cowboy hats, check shirts, chaps, and boots. There were reels and polkas, set dances, line dancing, honkey tonk and rock ‘n roll into the early hours.
On Saturday we hosted the Dublin Airport Community Family Day. The grounds looked fabulous, a sea of colour with the fluttering banners and bunting of Dublin Airport, thanks to Pat Monaghan and his Ground Force Crew. The juvenile players paraded from the beach, led by the Grand Marshal, Matthew O’Neill, and marched into the club’s tented village, to the sound of bagpipes, and were joined by horses from the Garda Mounted Unit. The air was filled with the aroma of cooking: burgers, hotdogs and Thai food. There was magic and fire eating, a dunk tank, fortune teller, face painters, chess tournament and memorabilia display. Music was provided on a 45’ trailer by Deirdre Ní Mheachair and her traditional band and by: ‘The Haran Sisters’ Singers.
Grateful thanks to Dublin Airport for their generous sponsorship for all these events.
