The u 16 travelled to St Peregrines and started their league campaign with a good win here is their Match Report.

Naomh Mearnóg 8-09 St Peregrines 4-12

The U16 team travelled to Blakestown on Sunday short of a few regular players but backed by players from the 15’s and 14’s they came away with the 3 points. The game began with Peregrines dominating and after 10 mins they were ahead 1-3 to 0-0 but the Mearnóg girls did not drop their heads. Amy Rogan, Lauren O Brien and Lauren Delaney settled the back line and Mearnóg began to move forward and pick off their scores. Jordan Bedford kicked a fine goal and 2 points from Ciara Holland had the girls back in the game. At half time the score was 3-08 to 2-04 to Peregrines.

The teams matched each other in the first quarter of the second half but with Sarah Brennan and Ciara Holland beginning to dominate in midfield the scores began to arrive for Mearnóg. Good half forward play from Dearbhla Murphy and Claire McGowan led to goals from Lauren Waters, Sarah Brennan and Sophie Brennan. Mearnog now had the lead and with Ruby Smith, Alanna Egan and Megan O Connor defending every ball nothing was going to get past them.

In the dying minutes Peregrines were awarded a penalty but a fine save from goal keeper Ella Griffin completed a great day and Mearnóg headed home with the win.
