Club Notes

March 3, 2014

Another good weekend on the playing fields for our juvenile teams saw victories for our Under 8, 11, 13 and Minor footballers. The under 13 ladies football team and the under 9 camogie girls were also victorious.

Thank you to our senior footballers who had a coaching session with our Special Needs group during the week. Both sides benefited enormously from this get together. The senior footballers are at home on Sunday morning against Ballinteer while the AFL 5 team are away to Cuala.

Our minor hurlers are away to Craobh Ciaran. Thank you to Andrew Ritwegger of Searing Point Accountants for his generous sponsorship of training gear for our minor hurlers. Pictures of the presentation ceremony are available on our website www.naomhmearnog.ie.

The senior hurlers are holding a 24 hour fundraising “Cyclothon” over the weekend. The event will start at 9pm on Friday night in the club. There will be cyclists and collectors outside Dunne’s Stores and Smyth’s Butchers on Saturday. The event finishes on Saturday night in the club where a raffle will be held. All players have sponsorship cards and your support would be appreciated.

Invoices for membership fees will issue shortly. Prompt payment would be appreciated.

All tickets (sold or unsold) for the big national GAA draw must be returned immediately.

New people with new ideas are the life blood of any organisation and with that in mind it’s nice to see young Lee Johnston helping to train and coach the Senior Ladies football team. It is vital that, when possible our Adult Players help out in the coaching of other teams. It is also a very rewarding exercise for all. We have many players involved in this role but we need more in all codes.

We extend our sympathy to the Carthy family on the death of Angela’s mother Hannah McGown and to the family of Eugene Egan from the Cuala club (former secretary of the Dublin Ladies football Board) who died recently. Many club members worked with Eugene over the years and he was an absolute gentleman. May the Souls of Hannah and Eugene Rest in Peace.
