Club Notes

December 15, 2014

Congratulations to our minor footballers who have reached the championship final after a hard fought win over Thomas Ashe. Not for the first time this season, the lads found themselves 5 points behind with 20 minutes remaining. They dug deep however and finished strongly with some excellent scores. The final score was 12 points to 1 goal and 6 points. Our opponents in the final will be Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh. That game is scheduled for the New Year. When this squad started training earlier in the year, they had very small numbers. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the management team of Adrian Kavanagh, Mick Hoban, Ray O’Sullivan, Frank O’Daly and Michael Shorthall they now find themselves in the final. It just proves that there is no substitute for hard work.

Good luck to our under 14 ladies football players who are involved in Dublin trials at the moment. We have many talented players in this age category and it is great to see that fact being recognised.

The adult regrading season is open from the 1st to the 21st of January. This applies to championship only. If you wish to be regraded for the 2015 season, please complete the appropriate form and return it to the club Secretary Tim Maher. Regrading is a vital lifeline for all clubs. Even if you get regraded, you can still play at the higher level if selected. Most players in hurling and football should consider this option.

We wish to remind all members and players that our married V singles games take place on St. Stephens Day. The hurling is at 12 followed immediately by the football. Those games have become an important feature of our games activity and all are welcome. Please come along and enjoy light refreshments in the bar afterwards.

As well as the playing of our games, our club is also a business that needs and deserves your support. So lads and ladies when you are planning your social gatherings over Christmas, please consider using your club. We have excellent facilities, we show all major sporting events and finger food is available.  We have the very popular local  group “Loose Chippings” on stage on New Years Eve.  Admission is free. So do come along.

As is normal for this time of the year, pitches are very wet and need time to recover from a very busy year. The cooperation of all mentors is appreciated.
