What a WONDERFUL day!
The under 14 and Minor ladies footballers had a big day out on Sun, 11th June. Setting off from the PSLC and heading towards Belfast, the coach was quickly filled with music, song and laughter (despite the early hour).
Two hours later the girls met with our fabulous hosts St James, Aldergrove GAC in Crumlin, Antrim. The teams gathered around for some friendly photos and then the U14’s match got under way. In spite of the lengthy journey our girls got stuck in and played brilliantly against a strong and determined team. After 40 mins of great football Mearnog’s won by two goals and then it was our Minors opportunity.
While this team was missing some of its players due to exam commitments, the younger girls were only too willing to offer their skills and took to the field with gusto. In the end the talented St James’s Minors, coached by John Jones an ex Mearnogs man, proved to be all too strong and comfortably won the game against our unyielding team of mixed ages.
Our sincerest thanks are afforded to St James Aldergrove GAC club for their warm hospitality and magnificent feast of refreshments. We look forward to returning the courtesy sometime soon.
And the day wasn’t over yet! Leaving the clubhouse in high spirits and full bellies we headed down to Carlingford Adventure Centre for an afternoon of Sky Walking and Zip Lining. Our thrill seeking lot took to these new challenges 40ft in the air like ducks to water! Later after some refreshments in Ma Bakers we headed home on a coach full of cheer and chorus. Needless to say this will be a day warmheartedly remembered by all our girls.
