Last Friday evening showed that our U 8 boys can play whatever the conditions.
For anyone who was there, you could be forgiven for mistaking the U8s for a squad of battle hardened 12 years olds such was the speed and skill levels on display and that was only the warm up!
Despite the driving rain and freezing temperatures, we fielded 3 teams for our Go Game hurling match against Parnells who deserve a big shout-out for accommodating our request to move the match to a Friday evening instead of our usual Saturday morning throw in as not only are our boys embarking on a new and exciting journey as Naomh Mearnóg players, many of them were also celebrating their first communion.
Three teams from each side lined out with some last minute transfers to even up the numbers so everyone got a game. It was only the poor coaches and supports left standing on the wet side-lines!.
Each team got to play two hurling matches. The boys’ training sessions have certainly seen them improve in leaps and bounds, as great free flowing hurling was evident in all games. Our boys certainly didn’t let the bad weather stand in their way and the sound of ash clashing rang out on the evening air.
Parents were in fine voice as plenty of support and encouragement flowed from the sidelines.
Rest assured, the future of the Club is in safe hands and sure you don’t have to take our word for it. Just come up and see for yourself!!
