It may have been a cold February morning but spring was definitely in the air and the boys of the Under 8s certainly had a spring in their step as they welcomed the boys and girls of Donaghmore Ashbourne GAA.
The Under 8s had a bye in their league so Donaghmore Ashbourne kindly agreed to travel up from the Royal County for a set of inter-county friendly games. Three teams from each side lined out (with some last minute transfers to even up the numbers!)
Both football and hurling skills were on display as each team got to play two football and one hurling match. The boys’ training sessions have certainly seen them improve in leaps and bounds, as great free flowing football was seen from all. Donaghmore Ashbourne certainly rose to the challenge with some great hand passing and blocking skills on display.
The boys also got to demonstrate their hurling prowess on the morning and while the grass on the Carrickhill pitch was a little long (thanks to the fertile droppings of some feathered friends), the boys didn’t let this stand in their way and the sound of ash clashing rang out on the morning air.
Parents were in fine voice as plenty of support and encouragement flowed from the sidelines.
Naomh Mearnóg would like to give a big go raibh mile maith agaibh to the boys, girls, coaches and parents of Donaghmore Ashbourne’s Under 8s for making the journey to Portmarnock and for the fantastic games of hurling and football.
