One of the most exciting and “spirited” games of recent years for our squad, came late last year, when Parnells Under12’s had a late score that saw us defeated by a point. Desperately disappointed, and surprised that a fantastic win had so suddenly been transformed to a bitter defeat, we left the park wondering what we needed to change to swing the balance for future games. This game was the backdrop to our 4th grading game with a lot at stake for the only two undefeated teams in our grading league yesterday afternoon in St David’s.
The management had prepped our now U13’s to expect an immediate charge from Parnells and we needed each member of the squad to perform to their absolute maximum. The expected charge materialised and Parnells had a point on the board in under a minute. Our answer was swift and the goal that followed settled the lads down. What played out subsequently was one of the finest performances the boys have delivered since this team was formed. Every player to a man battled for absolutely everything. The tackling was intense and the scores that followed were a direct result of a team that was relentless.
Parnells were on the ropes at half time and although they made a gallant second half start, the barrage our boys hit them with, extinguished their efforts quickly and our boys finished the game with a large points surplus.
This result means we have been undefeated in our grading games series and leaves us looking forward to our final grading tie against Cuala next weekend. For anyone who missed the panel this week we look forward to welcoming them back next week and the weeks after.
Final Score NM 5-12 Parnells A 1-7
