The U9s kicked off their 2016 season in style with a football match on Saturday 23rd of January. Their ferocious reputation, intense battling qualities and resilient style of play is well known to the coaches and parents who encourage the players at every opportunity during training and matches.
However, even the sight of 30 referees coming onto the pitch to officiate their challenge match against Raheny didn’t alter their style of play. (Some bewildered onlookers even thought that there must have been some sort of ‘uprising’ at a previous meeting between these two teams – this fear was soon allayed when they were told that the refs were in the process of completing their Level 1 Referees Course and this was their on pitch practical).
Our players, as always, listened attentively to the pearls of wisdom expressed by these ‘yellow pack’ referees who had only minutes earlier passed their final exams. The lads played exceptionally well in four evenly contested matches considering it was their first match of the year. We hope to give our opponents, Raheny, another opportunity to view at close hand our ability with the smaller ball on Saturday 30th with a home match, time to be finalised (weather permitting too!!!)
Training continues at 7pm on Wednesdays with matches on Saturday mornings.
