As a new batch of recruits started their first day in the academy, last year’s graduates hosted their second blitz of the year.
Over 20 boys from Naomh Mearnog U8s lined out against local opposition from Fingallians of Swords and Trinity Gaels from Donaghmeade. At the same time 20 more kids travelled to swords to take on teams from Fingallians, St Maurs of Rush and O Dwyer’s from Balbriggan. Despite only just being back from the summer break, the standard of hurling on display was top class. The boys who have recently joined us since the summer break, have slotted in nicely and most importantly, they all seem to be enjoying themselves.
Each team played 4 games and Mearnóg were unbeaten in every game. There were dramatic come backs, broken hurls, ricochets that ended up in the top corner of the net (the oppositions net of course) and great teamwork all around. Winning medals were presented and some light refreshments ensured everyone went home happy after a good morning at Páirc Mhearnóg. In Swords, it was a similar story with our boys winning every game. The boys were delighted with themselves and some goodie bags made the short trip home even more enjoyable.
The standard of hurling has really come on with this bunch of kids and let’s hopes it continues.
