A Weekend of Ups and Downs for the Boys.

Posted March 25, 2015

The U14s and U16s boys were in action at the weekend. The beautiful weather complimented some lovely goals which all in all provided a fantastic afternoon for the spectators.

U14s suffered their 2nd loss of the campaign against a bigger St Margaret’s team on Saturday.
St. Margaret’s got off to a great start and lead 1-11 to 0-5 at half time.
Some stern words were needed at half time and slowly our lads began to get back into the game.
A great goal by Eoin Kelly helped, with some fine work by Adam Hughes and Ben Gaynor. The culmination of their hard work brought us back into it. Unfortunately, St Margaret’s deserved the win on their first half display and the final score was NM 2-11, St Margaret’s3-14

The U16s made the long journey to Ballycullen to take on Ballyboden St Enda’s. The relaxed weather contradicted the energy of the play from the moment the whistle was blown. The Mearnóg lads played with purpose and passion and led by 3 goals after 25 minutes. Ballyboden made two clever substitions which changed the momentum of the game.

There were spells in the match were the teams were evenly matched but the Mearnog lads continued the pressure with some brilliant scores from Jack O Brien. The match ended with a triumphant win for Mearnóg. It will make for an interesting encounter in the championship.
