Last of the Gala Blitzes!

Our U11 camogie girls had their end of season gala blitz on Sunday morning, with the Red team hosting Peregrines, Raheny and Skerries in Pairc Mearnóg and the Blue team travelling to Mobhi Road to take on Naomh Barróg, Lucan Sarsfields and Na Fianna.

At home the Red Team were down 5 key players due to illness and injuries so this was going to be a big challenge. The tigers rose to the task in some style! They powered out of the blocks and overcame Raheny in the first game. . Next up was Skerries Harps. The Mearnóg girls fought like terriers. Ahead until the final stretch, they conceded a late goal and were pipped at the post by two points. Peregrines in the final game was a contest and a half! After winning comfortably against the same opposition in our last match, Peregrines came out all guns blazing. Again we lead coming towards the final furlong! Again our luck ran out! Ahead by 2 points with 3 minutes to go, we conceded a 45 from which Peregrines goaled to snatch victory by a point. Heart stopping stuff!

This was a super team performance with notable displays from Carla Brogan, Rebecca Gaynor, Ciara Mullins, Orlaith McGarry and Lauren McCullagh.

Meanwhile down in Mobhi Road, the Blue Team first took on Naomh Barróg and with Rebecca Wall’s puck-outs hitting the oppositions 30 yard line, the midfielders pushing forward at every opportunity, and the forwards like crack shooters, we won the game by 4 goals. Next up was Lucan Sarsfields who are always formidable opposition but the Mearnóg girls were in top form and never gave an inch. This was a very tight game with both sets of defences playing extremely well. Abbie Byrne and Julia Cosgrove stood out in this game and it ended up a draw with one goal a piece. Finally the girls played Na Fianna and again this was a very tight match and we were unlucky to be beaten in the end.

We look forward to a medal presentation and party in a couple of weeks. Training continues on Mondays and Saturdays.
