Our u-12 camogie team had a fantastic day in Croke Park recently, find out how they got on!
It was an early start we had to be at the club for 8.30am but we were going to be playing in Croke Park it didn’t matter. We arrived up and the bus was waiting for us we don’t normally get a bus so we were all excited. Have you all checked your bags did we have all our gear no good going to Croke Park and having no boots or skort everything in the bags were ready. Ann, Amy and Greg call out the team everyone here we get on the bus and as we wave good bye were off to Croke Park. The journey was great it felt like we were playing for Dublin as we arrived at Croke Park and we were directed in under the Cusack Stand.
We got our gear and went into the stand we got ready and out we walked onto the pitch. Over here the photographer shouted we need a team photo we sat on the famous bench and he snapped away this was like the All Ireland final. We were now walking on the grass of Croke Park it was soft and really green the sun was shining and it looked brilliant. Sitting in the stand waiting to get called for our games our parents and families arrived there was pictures been taken everywhere
The call went out and the games began we played 3 games meeting teams from Meath, Laois and Kilkenny. Every player played giving their all and we managed to score some nice goals and points. It was great to hear the club name being called out all around Croke Park and once we looked up at the giant screen and who is on it only us, come on Naomh Mearnog was roared out. We felt proud out on the pitch in the black and amber jersey maybe some day we some of us will be back again wearing the Blue of Dublin or in an All Ireland Club final for Naomh Mearnog you have to have dreams.
The final pictures were taken and we jumped back on the bus to begin our journey home to Portmarnock. We will all look differently now on Croke Park when we watch a match on telly or are in the ground we can all say the magic words Do you know I have played in Croke Park. What a great day.
Thanks to managers Ann, Amy and Greg for all their help and to our families for their support.
