Juvenile Camogie Round-up – 29th Sept

Posted September 29, 2014

Goals and skills aplenty from our juvenile camogie teams last weekend!

The U11 camogie team travelled to Mobhi Road for a challenge game against Na Fianna. Both teams fielded two teams of 10 and played two mini-matches. Games involving Naomh Mearnóg and Na Fianna are always nip and tuck and true to form, Naomh Mearnóg won two of the games and Na Fianna two,by the slightest of margins.

On the red team for Mearnóg, Ruth Lenihan despite a knock in the first half was outstanding, catching two lovely balls whilst playing half back. Both Rebecca Wall and Lauren McCullagh who shared goal keeping duties did really well with blocks and puck outs.

On the blue team, Carla Brogan and Ciara Mullins were a tower of strength in midfield and the half backs and two new players, Zoe and Katie Rose had no problem getting stuck into the game. Hope to organise another challenge game next weekend ahead of a league game vs Kilmacud on 12th October.

U10s: Our u10s travelled to Naomh Padraig on Saturday afternoon and played matches against Naomh Pádraig and Brigids. The girls won one, lost one and drew two games. Emma Kavanagh, Orlaith Kiernan, and Lisa Hughes stood out for their whole hearted efforts and great skills from Gráinne Downes, Alex Carroll and Nicole Keenan made the day for us all!

U9s: Our u9 girls hosted Naomh Barróg on Sunday morning. We fielded 3 teams who each played and won 2 games. The girls ran up an aggregate of 22 goals. These girls are pure class. The goals just flowed yesterday morning. Girls pulling off both sides, doubling on ground balls, catching and clearing, and playing first time hurling. They don’t just share the black and amber jersies with Kilkenny. They even celebrated in style with a jockey back race!!! Looking forward to next Sunday morning when we play Crumlin.

Camogie Nursery went ahead on Friday evening last. It will be back to Saturday morning from next Saturday. The Friday evening session was a roaring success. We were blessed with a gorgeous Indian summer’s evening, and over 40 girls hurled their way through an hour of great fun. The nursery numbers are going from strength to strength. Thanks to the TY girls and adult coaches whose enthusiasm is infectious!

Friday night nursery enjoying the last of the summer sun!
