Best of luck to Cliodhna, Denise and Maeve this Sunday!

Posted September 25, 2014

Best wishes to our own Cliodhna O’Connor and Denise Masterson this Sunday against Cork!

Cliodhna O’Connor and Denise Masterson will be part of the Dublin team who take on Cork in the senior All Ireland Ladies Final on Sunday next.

Cliodhna will line out in her customary goalkeeping position where she has certainly proved herself to be possibly the best keeper Ladies Football has ever seen and Denise in midfield where she has been an inspiration for Dublin and our club for the past number of years. In 2010 Denise was the outstanding captain who from midfield led Dublin when they won the Brendan Martin Cup for the only time to become All Ireland champions and she was ably assisted by Cliodhna in goal. Both girls were also honoured as All Stars.

These were heady and historic days for not alone Dublin but our club and the leadership the girls have shown since then has been an inspiration to all girls in our club. Indeed many honours have come the way of both girls in the intervening years. It is significant that the return of both girls to the Dublin team has seen Dublin reach their first All Ireland final since 2010.

In Naomh Mearnóg we are very keenly aware of the dedication and commitment together with the determination it has taken to remain at this level and we believe that these strengths will take the girls on the final step of bringing the Brendan Martin Cup back to the capital. We believe also that the achievements of both girls is having and will continue to have will provide a huge spin off in our club as we see young girls trying to become the next superstars of Ladies Football.

Finally on behalf of everyone associated with Naomh Mearnóg we would like to wish Cliodhna and Denise the success they richly deserve this weekend as they face Cork. We know you will do yourselves, your families, your club and your county proud. Ath Cliath abu.

We would also like to wish Maeve Redmond who is one of our former star players now living in the US and the New York girls every success in the All Ireland junior final in Croke Park against Wexford on Sunday next. Maeve was an outstanding player alongside Cliodhna and Denise for our club for many years from underage to adult before she moved to New York to pursue her studies.

What a great double it would be to see Maeve, Cliodhna and Denise climb the steps of the Hogan stand to collect winners medals for New York and Dublin respectively.
