We had great weather, great fun and great numbers! The Club have just completed three highly successful weeks of summer camps.
The first of these weeks was the Cul Camp which was attended by 130 children all of who participated in Gaelic games and other fun activities and all went home happy with their Cul Camp kit and bags!!
Weeks 2 and 3 were the Naomh Mearnog camps which were attended by 250 children. As part of these camps, we include a pre-school camp from 10 am to 12 noon for children who will be starting school in September – this has proved to be a great success as it provides the children with a great opportunity to meet other kids and participate in games and activities ahead of going to “big” school ! We are delighted to report that feedback from parents and kids has been excellent again this year.
The most pleasing aspect that we have noted from the camps this year is the ever increasing interest the children have in hurling, camogie and football. Whereas a few years ago the children simply came to the camp to have fun, many are now very keen just to come and play Gaelic games. This is demonstrated by the increased numbers of children attending with their own hurleys and helmets which has been driven by the work that is being done in the schools as well as the club..
As in previous years, our camps are again sponsored by the DAA and we thank Maura Cassidy for their continued support.
August will see us hosting our advanced camps for children who participate in the Under 8 to Under 14 teams. The Advanced Football camp will be held from 5-8 August and the Advanced Hurling camp from 11 to 15 August. Let’s hope the weather stays fine for these weeks…!!
