Naomh Mearnog were very proud to host their latest club fundraising event – Strictly Mearnog on Sat May 10.
This proved to be a very successful and entertaining evening which was attended by almost 500 people who came to cheer on sixteen intrepid club members and locals who took to the stage to strut their stuff!! Our judging panel of Kim Walters, Eamon Fennell and club stalwart Willie Fallon provided great feedback to each act and then it was over to the public vote of the audience who crowned Sean Whelan and Mary Ann May as King and Queen of the dance floor! Dance fever certainly took over as the guests then took to the floor and danced until the wee hours…
The preparation for the show took huge effort and a massive time commitment from all of our dancers as they undertook an intensive ten weeks rehearsal schedule with local dance teacher Jean Gill who put them through their paces and taught them a variety of dance routines ranging from salsa to disco, from waltz to Charleston!! Whilst it was hard work, all of the dancers agreed that it was great fun and all really enjoyed the experience.
The night would not have taken place were it not for the generous support of all the local individuals and businesses who kindly sponsored the event and whose support is greatly appreciated! The club are extremely grateful to the organising committee of Seamus Kiernan, Clare Gorey, Ann Brennan, Kate Moran, Lorinda Kinnane and Conor Kavanagh who also contributed a huge amount of time and effort in organising and running the event . The club looked fantastic on the night with the hall transformed into a stunning show venue by Gilda Smith and Aishling Hoban. Special mention must also go to Simon Archer for photography and design of the programme, to Eugene Fitzgibbon who supplied the stage for the evening and to Marie McCabe for making the costumes.
It was a wonderful event and one that will live long in the memory of the club and the community!
